English

The Charlotte Catholic High School English Department endeavors to satisfy the goals of our school’s mission statement by engaging our students in critical thinking, reading, and writing as they continue their spiritual, moral, and intellectual development. Our curriculum is designed to improve the reading, writing, listening, speaking, and thinking skills of students of various abilities.  In this curriculum, students are introduced to a variety of literature, including novels, short stories, plays, poems, and non-fiction. Through the reading of this literature, students advance their knowledge of literary techniques and genres and develop the skills necessary for understanding and appreciating literature. Students are also expected to do an extensive amount of writing to refine their written expression and vocabulary, as well as advance their knowledge of grammar. This writing includes a research paper assigned each year incorporating a variety of sources and adhering to the format of the Modern Language Association guidelines. Charlotte Catholic High School students are required to take four years of English to graduate.
