    Parents:
     
    Welcome to the 2022- 2023 school year!  As you begin planning for this school year, the counselors at Charlotte Catholic would like to take this opportunity to update you on the programs we will be offering to you and to your students during this school year. The counselors meet with students individually at least twice a year and then on an as needed/requested basis.  We are here to address academic, social, and emotional concerns as well as prepare them for college and we encourage students to reach out to us throughout the school year.        
     
    We hope that you will take the time to read over this letter and make plans to schedule some time to attend our information programs and also take the opportunity to speak with your student about the grade-level programs we will provide for them during the school year.  

    Freshman Orientation:  August 16, 2022, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Fine Arts Auditorium). (Freshmen students) Each counselor will meet with the incoming freshmen in their alphabet group during the Freshmen Orientation program. 

    New to MACS Orientation (10/11/12 grades): August 16, 2022, 1:00 PM - 2:45 PM (Library). Orientation for rising 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students and parents who are new to Charlotte Catholic High School. Parents and students should attend. 

    Senior College Process: August 22, 2022 (Classrooms). (Senior students) Counselors will meet with all seniors during class to discuss the college application process. 

    Senior Parent College Process: August 22, 2022, 6:30 PM (Fine Arts Auditorium). (Senior parents)  Counselors will meet with all senior parents to review the college application process and important information about the senior year events.

    Application Boot Camp for Seniors: August 28, 2:00 PM- 6:00 PM,  September 11, 2:00 PM- 6:00 PM, and October 2, 2:00 PM- 6:00PM (Library). (Seniors)  Pre-registration is required – look for a google doc that was sent via email to seniors on August 9th. Counselors will be available to assist students as they work on their college applications.  Funding is provided through a grant from the CCHS Foundation.
      
    Freshmen Parent Program: August 31, 8:00 AM (A-K Last Names) and September 1, 8:00 AM (L-Z Last Names) (Library). (Freshmen parents)  Counselors will talk about freshmen programming and answer questions from parents at this informal meeting. Counselors with last names A-K will present on August 31 and counselors with last names L-Z will present on September 1. Parents are welcome to attend either session.
     
    Financial Aid Night for Junior and Senior Parents: September 21, 2022, 6:30 PM (Library). (Junior & Senior parents)  The Counseling Department hosts a college financial aid expert to speak about applying for financial aid and scholarships.
     
    Freshmen Meet and Greet:  (Freshmen) Counselors will meet individually with each of their freshmen during the first quarter.  As always, students are encouraged to come see us, email us questions or request appointments anytime they have a question or concern.         

    Parent/Student College Admission Panel Night: October 4, 2022, 6:30 PM (Fine Arts Auditorium).  (Sophomore & Junior Parents & Students)  College Admission Representatives from a variety of different universities will give an overview of college admissions from each of their schools to help parents and students see the similarities and differences in the admissions process among colleges.
     
    PSAT: October 12, 2022. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT that morning at CCHS. 
     
    Suicide Prevention Program: (Classrooms). (Freshmen) Counselors will host a Suicide Awareness and Prevention program to all freshmen in their first or second semester health classes.  Parents will receive an email with the specific dates and details closer to the program dates.  (TBD)
     
    Juniors Nuts & Bolts of College Admissions: October 19, 2022 (Classrooms). (Juniors)  Counselors will present an overview to juniors of what they need to know about researching, choosing and applying to college.

    Junior Parent Program: October 19, 2022, 6:30 PM (Fine Arts Auditorium). (Junior parents) The Nuts & Bolts of College Admission for parents – a thorough overview of what students and parents need to know about researching, choosing and applying to college.

    Freshmen Classroom Program: January 9, 2023 (Classrooms). (Freshmen)  Counselors will teach freshmen how to access and use SCOIR, our college and career planning web-based program.

    Sophomore Parent Program: January 12, 2023, 8:00 AM (Library). (Sophomore parents) Counselors will talk about sophomore programming and answer questions from parents during this informal session.
     
    Sophomore Classroom Program: January 12, 2023 (Classrooms). (Sophomores) Counselors will present grade level guidance and college counseling programs to sophomore classes.
     
    Parent PSAT Interpretation for 9th, 10th, 11th grade Parents: February 1, 2023, 6:30 PM, (Library). (9th, 10th, 11th grade Parents)  Counselors will help parents interpret the PSAT results.
     
    Academy Day: April, 2023 (date and time TBD).  (Open to all)  Representatives from all the US military academies will present information on their academy admission process.

    Junior College Essay Workshop: April 24-25, 2023 (Classrooms) (Juniors) The counseling department will host a 2-day workshop for junior students to prepare to write their college application essays. 

    Senior Parent Transition Program: April 26, 2023, 6:30 PM (Library). (Senior Parents) Counselors will host a program for senior parents aimed at preparing them for the next steps as their students graduate and start their next chapter.                                                                              
     
    SAT at CCHS:  CCHS students are encouraged to take the SAT at CCHS by registering on College Board (www.collegeboard.org) for the following test dates:              


    August 27, 2022 
    October 1, 2022
    November 5, 2022    
    December 3, 2022
    March 11, 2023
    May 6, 2023

     
    ACT:  The ACT is offered at area public schools.  Students can register for the ACT test on the ACT website: www.ACTStudent.org.  
     
    AP Exams:  Students (juniors and seniors) in AP classes will take their AP exams the weeks of 5/1/2023 – 5/12/2023.  The AP Exam fee for each test will be required to be paid in August.
     
    Please visit the Charlotte Catholic High School Counseling page on the CCHS Website, www.CharlotteCatholic.org; it can be found under the Departments Link on the homepage.  Please read each of the different sections on our page for more information about course selection, the High School & College Planning Handbook, Scoir, Standardized testing, etc.  There are links for College Board (SAT) and the ACT (ACT test); Khan Academy test prep, college application website links, etc.
     
    We encourage each of your students to come see us anytime they have questions or concerns – the more we see them, the better we get to know them, which helps everyone down the road as they begin their college process.  We welcome parents to contact us, too; if you wish to see us, we ask that you make an appointment by emailing or calling us with some dates and times that work with you so we can schedule a meeting.  
     
    Phew!  We know this is a lot of information to process.  We hope you made note of these programs on your calendars and agendas so you can attend and also discuss the student programs with your students.   

    Please, remember to read the Catholic Daily – programs, updates and important information comes your way each and every day.  It is important for both students and parents to read the Catholic Daily to avoid missing special events, programs and deadlines.  Especially deadlines!!
