Meet the Social Studies Department
Mr. Shawn Panther - Department Head
Mr. Panther holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Dayton and a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Social Studies from UNC-Charlotte. After spending nine years in business and industry, Mr. Panther started teaching at Charlotte Catholic in 2006. He has taught World History, United States History, and Politics and currently teaches AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics. Mr. Panther is also the coach of the Men’s Golf Team, which has won four NCHSAA State Championships during his time as coach. He and his wife, Mary-Martha, have two daughters in the MACS system.

Ms. Samantha Carey- Department Head
Samantha Carey is in her second year teaching at CCHS. She is a graduate from Campbell University (undergraduate) and Auburn University at Montgomery (graduate). Samantha holds a state license in Social Studies, English Language Arts, and Special Education. She is currently the 9th grade Ancient World History and 11th grade United States History teacher. Within her classroom she strives to not only teach history content, but also study skills and time management. "I believe one the of best ways to be successful is to know yourself and know the best way for YOU to learn. All students are very different, so I make sure they understand their differences are super powers". Outside the classroom Samantha coaches Field Hockey and Lacrosse.

Ms. Ann Marie Chamberlain
Ms. Chamberlain teaches Honors World History and U.S. History. Ann Marie earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Olivet College (MI), majoring in history and journalism, with a minor in social studies. She went on to earn a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Phoenix with a focus in curriculum and instruction. She spent almost 10 years teaching Alternative Education in Michigan before moving to the Carolinas. This is her 10th year at Catholic. In addition to teaching, she is the advisor to the Japanese Anime Club and the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society.

Mr. Matthew Kalbaugh
A Charlotte Catholic graduate and a recipient of a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s degree in teaching from UNC Charlotte, Mr. Kalbaugh worked in the North Carolina public school system for two years before returning to his high school alma mater in 2021. He strives to instill a sense of empathy and understanding among his students, empowering them to leave a positive mark on today’s world by learning from the issues of the past. He currently teaches Honors US History and Advanced World History.

Mr. King is a member of the Social Studies Department. He teaches World History, Marketing, and Personal Finance classes.

Mr. Christopher Kossman
Mr. Kossmann is from the Big Apple NYC and is in his 26th year in the education and his 6th year at CCHS. After receiving his degree in Secondary Education from SUNY New Paltz with a concentration in both History and Political Science he spent 10 years teaching/coaching Football in NYC and 10 years doing the same in SW Florida before coming to Charlotte Catholic. Mr. Kossmann is an avid reader and movie buff especially Science Fiction so you can often find him at a local theatre in his spare time for the newest release. He desires to help mold the the next generation of leaders in the world and in the faith.

Ms. Liz Luke
Ms. Luke has been teaching social studies at CCHS for 16 years. A native of northeast Ohio, Ms Luke graduated with a BA from the University of Akron, and received a Master's degree in Public Administration from UNCC. She came to Catholic after a 20 year career as a news anchor and reporter. She has one daughter, Melody Hager, who is a guidance counselor at CCHS, as well as an alumna! Ms Luke lives in SC with her sister and four cats

Mr. John Morgan
John Morgan is in his tenth year teaching history at both the middle and high school levels. He is in his fourth year teaching U.S. History and U.S. Government at Charlotte Catholic, and he spent his first six years teaching 7th grade World History at Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School in Charlotte, NC. John is a native of Charlotte, and a graduate of Charlotte Catholic High School in 2002. He earned his Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Kentucky, and a Graduate Certificate in Middle and High School Social Studies from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he obtained his North Carolina's Teaching License. Mr. Morgan believes a strong foundation in history and civics is essential in fostering ideas of responsible citizenship and inspiring the future stewards of our communities, our nation and our world.
Mrs. Tracy Moricone
Mrs. Tracy Moricone is currently in her 3rd year teaching at Charlotte Catholic High School. Mrs. Moricone began her teaching career after twenty years in the business world. She has nine years experience in the classroom as a World History teacher, Geometry teacher and Special Education teacher/Case Manager. Mrs. Moricone earned her Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education and her Bachelor of Arts in History from East Stroudsburg University. Additionally, she pursued Master's Level classes in Special Education to earn her Pennsylvania Special Education certification. She taught Advanced Geometry her first year at CCHS and has since taught Ancient World History and World History. Mrs. Moricone is currently pursuing her Master's in Global Studies from UNC Wilmington.
Mrs. Sara Waldron
Mrs. Waldron teaches AP Gov and Honors U.S. Politics. She served as an adjunct instructor of political science at Campbellsville University in Kentucky and Belmont Abbey. A graduate of Miami University, Mrs. Waldron majored in Political Science and German and a minor in Economics. She earned her Masters in Political Science from The Ohio State University. Mrs. Waldron currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Political Science Department at The Ohio State University. As a college student, she was an intern for Speaker of the House John Boehner and later The Heritage Foundation think tank. She also worked in Ohio state politics. She and her husband have three children, all of which are in the MACS system.
Mrs. Dana Zimmer
A graduate of the Charlotte Catholic High School, Dana Zimmer holds a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in History and Political Science from Duquesne University and a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Social Studies from UNC-Charlotte. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Instructional Systems Technology from UNC-Charlotte. Dana has been teaching at Charlotte Catholic High School since 2008, having also served in the role of Technology Coach. She currently teaches AP United States history, but teaches U.S. history at all levels as well as Politics courses. Dana is the mother of three children, all in the MACS system.
