COUGAR BASEBALL ALUMNI AT THE NEXT LEVEL
Jeff Monin (1988)
Jeff led the 1988 Cougar Baseball team to the state championship game. He was named to the CCHS Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.
Jeff went on to play two years at Louisburg Junior College, and then two years for the NC State Wolfpack. He graduated from NC State in 1992.

Alex Jensen (2011)
Alex was two-time All-Conference selection, and was named the 2011 Conference Player of the Year following his senior season at Catholic.
He then went on to West Point, where he started 202 career games at shortstop for the Black Knights. AJ hit .251 over his four year career, while leaving Army as one of the best defensive shortstops in program history.
Alex served our country following graduation from West Point, getting deployed several times throughout the middle east.

Eddie Hull (2012)
Eddie led the Cougars to three-straight MEGA-7 Conference Championships and three-straight appearances in the 3rd round of the state tournament (2010, 2011, 2012). He hit .435 in his three-year career at Catholic. Hull was named the 2012 MEGA-7 Conference Player of the Year, as well as being named a member of the All-Charlotte Observer team and 1st team All-State. He was also a two-time All-MEGA 7 All-Conference selection and an All-South Charlotte Weekly selection.
Hull played one year of junior college baseball at Louisburg College. He then went on to play in 55 career games for the Charlotte 49ers over a three year span.
Hull graduated from Charlotte in 2017 with a Bachelors in Business Administration, and he also received an MBA from Wingate University in 2019.
Chris Clare (2013)
Chris was a two-time All-Conference selection while at Catholic. He led the Cougars to a conference championship his junior year. He graduated from CCHS in 2013 and went to star at High Point University. Clare started 151 career games over his three year career at HPU, while hitting .320 with 179 hits and 78 RBIs.
Clare was named first team All-Big South his junior year, and then was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 21st round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
Clare played several years of minor league baseball, getting as high as AAA with the Norfolk Tides. His only AAA home run came in Charlotte, while playing back home in front of many family and friends.

Chase Arnold (2013)
Chase Arnold was a staple at first base for the Cougars on the 2012 and 2013 teams. He was a two-time All-Conference selection in 2012 and 2013, and he was All-State in 2013 as a senior. Chase was also an All-Conference football player as a senior.
Chase went on to do a post-grad year at IMG Academy in 2014, and then went on to play ball at LaSalle University, where he was a member of the baseball team for five years. Chase graduated in 2018 with a BS in Marketing.
Chase currently works for Achieve Athletics and coaches baseball at Catholic.

McCann Mellett (2016)
McCann was a two time All-Conference selection while at Catholic, graduating in 2016, and went on to star at nearby Wingate University.
McCann was a 3 year captain at Wingate, starting 189 career games, and leading the Bulldogs to a 140-89 record. Mellett finished his career with 655 career at bats, a batting average of .337, a total of 221 hits, 169 runs scored, 54 doubles, 5 triples, 29 Home Runs, and 149 RBIs. McCann was a two-time SAC All-Conference award winner, a three-time SAC Player of the Week, a Southeast Player of the Week, and a two-time All-SAC Conference Tournament team member.
Mellett graduated from Wingate University in 2020 with a Bachelors in Business Administration and returned for his MBA and final season in 2021, leading the Bulldogs to the SAC Conference Tournament Championship, Southeast Regional Championship, and Wingate's first ever D2 National Baseball Championship title, where he also made the All-World Series Team in June 2021 in Cary, NC.
McCann received his MBA in the Spring of 2022 and is currently working in the Logistics and Transportation industry here in Charlotte.

Nick Bruno (2016)
Bruno was a four-time letterwinner for Coach Randy Belk and the Cougars. He was a two-time South Meck 8 All-Conference selection. Nick posted a 1.04 ERA in 54 innings during his senior season. He also played football, earning All-Conference honors on the gridiron.
Bruno was an integral part of the Catholic program during his time here. After high school, Nick attended UNC-Wilmington, where he was a member of the Seahawk baseball program. Nick graduated from UNCW in 2020.
Mitchell Salvino (2019)
Mitchell was a three-year letterwinner at CCHS. He also played basketball for two years and football for one year. Salvino was a NCHSAA Scholar Athlete as a senior. He was also a member of the 17U Southeastern USA Baseball Team and represented North Carolina in the Battle of the Border Showcase between N.C. and S.C. Mitchell was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Math Honor Society while in high school as well. He also received the Gold Presidential Service Award for over 250 hours of service in 24 months and the Cougar Award for Academic Excellence.
Salvino played three years of college baseball at Washington & Lee, where he excelled on and off the field. Following the 2023 season, Mitchell graduated from W&L with a degree in Integrated Engineering. During his last year at W&L, he was named the William D. McHenry Men's Sport Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was the ODAC Scholar Athlete of the Year... Garnered Washington & Lee Scholar-Athlete honors during both the fall and spring semester... Hit .344 and started 31 games... Tallied 21 extra-base hits, including 14 doubles, three triples and four home runs... Recorded a team-high 14 stolen bases and had an on-base percentage of .401.
Mitchell spent the 2024 season at Wake Forest as a graduate transfer, playing baseball for the Demon Deacons and pursuing a Masters in Management. He appeared in 29 games and started in six games... Recorded six hits, six RBIs, and one home run... Played in first game for the Demon Deacons against Fordham (Feb. 16)... Recorded three hits, including an RBI single and a three-run home run, against Louisville (March 21)... Tallied two hits against Florida State (April 19)... Had a two-RBI single against North Carolina A&T (May 8).
Alsander Womack (2017)
Womack was an integral piece of the Catholic Baseball program over the four years he was here. He earned three varsity letters while at Catholic. He earned All-Conference and 4A All-State honors as a senior in 2017. He also earned All-Conference honors as a junior during the 2016 season.
Al went on to play at Norfolk State University, where he added numerous honors while in school. Womack was named a Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American in 2018, first team All-MEAC as a sophomore in 2019, MEAC's 2020 preseason Player of the Year, and led the Spartans to the East Carolina regional in 2021. He finished his career ranked fifth in NSU history in career hits, with 211, fifth in singles (157), seventh in doubles (40) and 10th in total bases (290). Womack signed a free agent contract with the Chicago White Sox after the season. Al is currently in AA with the White Sox.
Al is the son of former big leaguer, Tony Womack.
Will Samuelson (2019)
Will Samuelson was a three-year letterman for the Cougars. He was named All-Conference during his senior year, batting .340. Will also played Varsity Football on the 2017 NC 3AA HS State Championship Team and was a member of Varsity Swim Team for 3 years, and he was named a captain during his senior year. Samuelson was selected to play in the 2018 NC State Games for Region 6, where he led his team to a bronze medal. Will played his showcase ball for CBC.
Will then went on to Catawba Valley Community College, where he was a member of the Red Hawk baseball team. During the 2020 season, Will batted .538, and during the 2021 season, he hit .441 and was voted 1st-Team NJCAA All-Region 10. He was also voted 2nd-Team NJCAA All-American.
Samuelson played his final two years at Tusculum University. Stats below:
2023: Played in 45 games with 42 starts... Batted .291 with 43 total hits including nine doubles and seven home runs... Finished second on the team with 36 RBI... Third on the roster with 25 walks... Led the team with 331 putouts... 10 multiple-hit games... Nine multiple-RBI outings... Hit two home runs on two occasions against Davis & Elkins (Feb. 19) and Emory & Henry (Apr. 4)... Went 3-for-5 with two homers and five RBI vs Davis & Elkins... 3-for-3 with two walks and two RBI in home win over No. 30 Young Harris (Feb. 21)... Went 3-for-3 with two homers, four RBI and two walks at Emory & Henry... CSC Academic All-District first team... Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.
2022: Appeared in 40 games with 35 starts... Batted .290 with 40 hits including nine doubles, three home runs, 21 RBI and 24 runs... 12 multiple-hit games as well as six outings with multiple RBI... 10-game hitting streak from Mar. 22-Apr. 10... 14-game on-base streak from Mar. 15-Apr. 10... Three straight games with multiple hits including DH at West Georgia (Apr. 2) and at home vs Mars Hill (Apr. 6)... Belted homers against Queens (Feb. 26), No. 20 Lenoir-Rhyne (Mar. 11) and West Georgia (Apr. 1)... 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI in home win over No. 15 West Georgia (Mar. 22)... Three hits with a double against Limestone (Feb. 10)... Drew three walks in season-opener at Palm Beach Atlantic (Feb. 3)... Two doubles vs King (Feb. 28)... Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.
Cormac Terry (2020)
Cormac was a standout on the mound for the Cougars. During his senior season, he led the conference in strikeouts. See below for his Catholic University bio:

As a Junior (2023): Made nine appearances, including one start...tossed 22.0 innings...earned a win and two saves...struck out 20 batters...picked up the save with 2.0 scoreless innings vs. Coast Guard on March 9...struck out five in 3.1 innings of relief against Scranton on April 8...picked up the save with 3.0 scoreless innings, striking out six at Juniata on May 7.

Skidmore on March 5 ... earned the win, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings v. Penn College on March 8, striking out seven.

Joey Ruller (2022)
2023: Made 13 appearances on the season with six starts which was the fourth most on the team... Tossed 41.0 innings on the season which was the most amongst the newcomers... Tossed a season-high 6.1 innings against Tennessee Tech on March 4, 2023... Struck out a season-best five batters against Fairleigh Dickinson University on February 25, 2023

Nick Smith (2022)
Nick graduated from Catholic in 2022 and went on to play at Tallahassee CC in Florida. He has had two successful seasons at TCC.

Jake Kernodle (2023)
Jake was a key contributor at Catholic over his four years in the program. He is currently playing at Princeton University. As a freshman at PU, Jake started in 37 games and hit .286.
