Team Roles and Responsibilities
Athletes are accountable for their roles.
Where responsibilities are not met or need improvement, Captains and Coaches will partner to improve alignment.
New Team Members:
- Attend all practices and meets except when approved excused absences are communicated by the athlete to the coaching staff.
- Some exceptions are granted for multi-sports athletes with the understanding that the bare minimum commitment is 2 practices as week.
- Unexcused absences will result in missed meets and potential termination from the team.
- Follow instruction and learn from Coaches, Upperclassman, and Captains.
- Support the team goals and strive to improve.
- Maintain good standing academically.
- Represent Catholic High School values, culture and history.
- Freshmen are also responsible for basic duties like cleaning up the tent area, folding tarps and carrying snack trays.
Returning Team Members:
- Same expectations as team members. In addition:
- Provide guidance and lead by example for team members.
- Set the standard of excellence in mindset, language and commitment.
- Support captains and serve as delegate Captains when Captains are unable to attend a team practice or event.
Captains:
- Same expectations as Returners. In addition:
- Support and carry out the team vision provided by the coaching staff.
- Support and actively ensure a safe, fun and welcoming environment for all teammates; escalates concerns as needed to coaching staff.
- Identify team issues and partner with coaching staff to address where applicable.
- Responsible for setting up, communicating and maintaining captain practices.
- Responsible for aligning student car pools to get all athletes safely to the trail.
- Lead warm-ups at practice and meets.
- Re-enforces trail etiquette and safety.
- Student athlete representatives for team or school events.
- Owns or delegates Social Media updates.
