Charlotte Catholic and Central Piedmont Community College Dual Enrollment

Students must attend a NC high school, be a high school junior or senior, and have an unweighted 2.8 GPA. Charlotte Catholic will provide an unweighted GPA for interested students. 

Charlotte Catholic will offer this opportunity for SENIORS for the 2026-2027 school year. 

Students are responsible for pacing themselves through the courses and must be in good academic standing. Students will not be allowed to take a spring semester DE course if they do not earn a C or higher in a fall semester DE course. 

The state of North Carolina pays for the tuition. Students are responsible for the required CPCC fees. Fees are determined by CPCC for each course and will be billed to students through their CP accounts.

• Public Speaking, CPCC: COM 231, Introduction to Sociology, CPCC: SOC 210, Art Appreciation, CPCC: ART 111: Approximately $160

The College Transfer pathway offers 8 different transfer pathways. Students will select one transfer pathway: Arts, Science, Engineering, Visual Art Fine Arts, Music Fine Arts, Theatre Fine Arts, Teacher Preparation Arts, or Teacher Preparation Science. Students should review the pathway course information and “How to choose a pathway” before selecting their particular pathway. Each pathway has its own course requirements and limits, and students can only take classes in their selected pathway. 

Through Dual Enrollment, students will take general education requirements for two-year or four-year college degrees that are transferable to any UNC Institution. All 17 institutions in the UNC system are a part of the articulation agreement with CPCC. 

If a student plans to attend a college or university outside of the UNC system, courses and credit may still transfer. Students should check with their intended institution to assess transfer credit and course equivalency. Follow this link for an example of a course equivalency check for an out-of-state institution. 

Students should remember that by taking a Dual Enrollment course, they are enrolled in a college. This constitutes the beginning of the student’s college GPA!
 

Students in Dual Enrollment follow Central Piedmont’s academic calendar, which will differ from Charlotte Catholic’s academic calendar. Students are still required to attend college classes even if Charlotte Catholic may be closed or on a break.

During course registration this spring, rising seniors will have the option to select one DE course for their fall semester and one DE course for their spring semester (a total of 2 courses during the school year), and each semester course will last 16 weeks. CPCC requires a minimum enrollment for each class, and courses may not be offered if the minimum enrollment is not reached.

Students MUST apply through My Connect after registering for classes with their counselor. CPCC provides step-by-step instructions, and students must begin by creating an account. CPCC Account Creation and Application. Additional instructions will be given to students who wish to register. All CPCC dates and deadlines must be met. CPCC’s final deadline for processing: Summer- April 20, Fall- July 20, Spring- November 30. 

Students are required to upload new transcripts each semester to MyConnect to remain eligible for registration each semester. 

Any course taken at CPCC through Dual Enrollment outside of the 3 designated classes will not be added to the Charlotte Catholic transcript. 
 

Dual Enrollment students must balance high school classes, extracurricular activities, and other commitments with their college classes. It is important to consider the overall load of academics and extracurriculars when deciding to take a college course while still in high school. 

Students must adhere to CPCC’s drop/add deadlines and policies. Generally, students can drop a course and have it removed from their CP transcript if they drop before the 10% point of the academic period. If a student drops a DE course for any reason between 10-35% of the academic period, the course will remain with a W on the CP transcript AND on the CCHS transcript. 

Students may drop a DE elective during Charlotte Catholic’s drop/add period, but they are still accountable to Central Piedmont’s policies and all fees. 
 

Students needing Disability and Access Services will need to apply for accommodations directly through CPCC, and then professors expect students to initiate contact if assistance is needed. Charlotte Catholic will not manage accommodations in DE courses. 

Additional courses might be available in future school years.

The offered courses were intentionally selected as asynchronous opportunities that are not already offered at CCHS and that have the potential to transfer to colleges for credit. Rising seniors were surveyed about their interest in different course offerings and the courses with the most interest were selected. The offered courses are common requirements at colleges and universities. Charlotte Catholic will consider expanding DE offerings in the Spring of 2027. 

Charlotte Catholic is NOT offering Dual Enrollment courses to replace academic core courses and graduation requirements. 
 

Students will have one period a day assigned per CPCC course to participate in online, asynchronous instruction. The structure will be studyhall style at CCHS, with students in the same room participating in different courses.

Students are responsible for pacing themselves through the course. CCHS staff will not be monitoring course attendance, progress, grades, or make-up work. Parents will not have access to student attendance, progress, or grades, per FERPA guidelines.

FERPA at CPCC: At post-secondary institutions, all currently enrolled and former students (regardless of age) are protected by FERPA. Whether you are 15 or 55, under FERPA, we cannot answer questions or release information about you (grades, current classes, etc.) to your parents/families without your written permission.

For the 2026-2027 school year, all DE courses will have a 5-point weight, will be reported on the CCHS transcript, and will be included in GPA calculations. In addition, all courses will count for 0.5 credit, a one-semester course. 

Grades will be awarded on CPCC’s grading scale, which does not include: +/-. 
 

Neither CCHS nor the Diocese of Charlotte approves, monitors, or manages the course rigor or content presented at CPCC. Materials may not be in line with Catholic doctrine. 

CPCC course instructors are not employed by MACS or Charlotte Catholic.
