2024-2025 Welcome!
Hello All and Welcome to the New School 2024-25 Year !!!!!
We hope you have been enjoying your summer. The first day of school (Wednesday, August 21) is fast approaching. We are so excited for this upcoming year! Since the Options Program continues to grow, we have added a few new people to our team. We welcome Kate Reynolds, Carol Herrmann, and Annmarie Monroe.
The Options Program Team
Shelley Floriani (Teacher) - Shelley has worked at Charlotte Catholic for the past three years. Prior to working at CCHS, she taught in Union County (NC), New Jersey, and Connecticut. She has a BA and MA degree in Special Education. Her family is originally from New Jersey, but have lived in Charlotte for over 19 years. Shelley’s boys graduated from CCHS in ‘22 and ‘24. She feels very blessed to be working in the Options Program.
Kate Reynolds (Teacher)- Kate has been educating children in some capacity for over 25 years. She began her career as a classroom teacher, and then worked for many years as a preschool director. This summer she left her hometown of Dayton, Ohio and her job as an assistant director of the school’s autism program to make the journey to Charlotte, NC. Along with help from her husband, she raised six wonderful children; all of whom benefited from years of Catholic education. Kate loves to read, take long walks, and travel to new places. She is excited and grateful to be a part of the CCHS team!
Anne Kalbaugh (Lead Teaching Assistant) - Anne was raised in MD and lived in TX and FL before settling in Charlotte 15 years ago. Four of her five children have graduated from Charlotte Catholic and her youngest is a junior this year. Prior to working full-time in the Options Program, she had been a substitute teacher in MACS for 7 years. Anne likes to read, go to the beach, and is excited to be back in Options again this year.
Deb (Lead Teaching Assistant) - Deb is a member of the Options Department and is assisting with options classes and students. Deb’s joy of children and education led her to direct a childcare and development program with a staff of 10 professionals, and over 95 students. Originally from Georgia, she moved to South Carolina with her family in 1987. Deb has two grown children, and 3 beautiful granddaughters. She is currently focusing her avocational energy on three charming and precocious young great-granddaughters. Deb loves working with young people and earnestly maintains that it keeps her young and energetic.
Carol Herrmann (Part Time Teaching Assistant) - Carol was raised in Brooklyn NY. After getting married, she moved her family to Northport, LI. Northport is a sweetheart little town on the North Shore. Carol has three children, Andrea, Paul, and Margot and six grandchildren. During the busy time of raising kids, she continued her education and received a Masters Degree, specializing in children with Special Needs, and a Masters Degree in reading. She taught in Long Island prior to her retirement. Carol is excited about the growth of the Options Program and is very happy to join the team.
Annmarie Monroe (Partiime Teaching Assistant) - Annmarie is from Rhode Island. She taught middle school in Massachusetts in both regular and Special Education classrooms. She lives in Charlotte with her husband Hal, her son Christopher, daughter-in-law Christine, and grandson Michael. She enjoys walking, reading, and hanging out with her family. She is happy to be a team member of the Options Program.
Additionally joining our “Options family” are 9th graders, Adam and Gaby.
We are fortunate to share three classrooms this year - Room 224B, Room 229 and the Life Skills. Each of our students will continue to have their own locker. The lockers are located right around the corner from our classrooms. We will plan on having the Options Scholars decorate each locker prior to the first day of school. The students will keep their bookbags, lunch boxes, change of clothes, and jackets in them. We will email the dimensions of the lockers. The students will be allowed to decorate the inside of their locker if they wish with pictures, a mirror, ect. (This is what some of us did back in the day :)
The Options staff will be ready to greet our students at 7:20 in our classrooms. We will reach out to each of you independently to discuss your arrival and dismissal plans.
New this year, students will be purchasing books for their Religion, History (only Juniors), Science (only Freshmen and Seniors). More details and information will follow.
