Meet the Options Program Team

Dr. Maria Leahy

Dr. Maria M. Leahy is the Director of Learning Support and Options Programs at Charlotte Catholic High School.  She has served as an educator in many capacities, including K – 12 teaching and administration.  Her passion and area of focus is providing students with learning differences and developmental disabilities the best possible learning environment.  Dr. Leahy has created curriculum and designed programs to enhance the educational experience.  She also teaches advanced graduate courses in leadership, curriculum, and instruction.  With two daughters and a son-in-law who graduated from CCHS and future Cougars (6 grandchildren), Dr. Leahy is devoted to growing our academic programs.  



Mrs. Shelley Floriani

Shelley Floriani is the lead teacher for the Options Program. She earned her Undergraduate Degree in Special Education at the University of Lynchburg and her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Kean University in New Jersey. Prior to coming to Charlotte Catholic during the 2021-2022 school year, Mrs. Floriani taught in Union County (NC), New Jersey and Connecticut. Originally from New Jersey, she moved to the Charlotte area over 18 years ago with her husband Paul and her two sons (Class 2022 and 2024). Mrs. Floriani is thrilled to be a part of the Options Program. She feels blessed that the CCHS community is so supportive.



Mrs. Deborah Buchan

Mrs. Buchan is a member of the Options Department and is assisting Mrs. Floriani with her classes and students. Mrs. Buchan’s joy of children and education led her to direct a childcare and development program with a staff of 10 professionals, and over 95 students. Originally from Georgia, she moved to South Carolina with her family in 1987. Mrs. Buchan has two grown children, and 3 beautiful granddaughters. She is currently focusing her avocational energy on three charming and precocious young great-granddaughters. Mrs. Buchan loves working with young people and earnestly maintains that it keeps her young and energetic.



Mrs. Anne Kalbaugh

Mrs. Kalbaugh is honored to be part of the Options Program as an Assistant Teacher. She has many years experience working with students as a volunteer and tutor in the Charlotte area and as a substitute teacher in MACS. She has had 4 sons graduate from CCHS and her daughter is a sophomore.
