Charlotte Catholic Juniors Honored in DAR American History Video Contest

Charlotte Catholic Juniors Honored in DAR American History Video Contest

This Fall, Charlotte Catholic juniors participated in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) American History Video Contest as part of their U.S. History coursework. Students created videos highlighting local American Revolutionary figures and their contributions to America’s independence in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

The contest begins at the local chapter level, with winners eligible to move on to district and higher levels. After reviewing submissions from all classes, teachers selected 10 videos created by 18 students as Charlotte Catholic’s final entries. Competing against submissions from students across Mecklenburg County schools, William Dominguez and Jacob Amar were named local chapter winners.

The remaining students whose videos were selected for the contest received certificates of recognition for their work. They included Maddie McWilliams, Lauren LaRocque, Jack George, John Hucko, Juliet Smarz, Kate Pennell, Charlotte Cox, Catalina Lizarazu, Jack Ryan, Emma Mauntel, Mia Marchetti, Brayden Leach, Domenic Bambino, and Jack Smanda.

Students were honored at a breakfast ceremony where awards were presented and winners announced. Representatives from the Daughters of the American Revolution in attendance included Ms. Martha Thorpe, Vice Regent and American History Chair; Annette Imbrogno, Chapter Regent; and Catherine Bracey, North Carolina American History Chair for the DAR.

During the ceremony, students and staff learned that Dominguez and Amar also won at the District 3 level and will move on to the state finals. They will be notified of their state standings within the next month.
